Albino Blue Fin Flame Paradise Fish (Macropodus opercularis)

Product image 1

Albino Blue Fin Flame Paradise Fish (Macropodus opercularis)

Albino Blue Fin Flame Paradise Fish is a striking ornamental variant of the classic Paradise Fish. Albino strains display a creamy white to pale pink body, red eyes, and enhanced blue and red undertones, particularly in the fins. These traits are consistent with the albino and blue ornamental strains documented in the species.

This morph combines the traditional flame‑red pigmentation of Paradise Fish with distinctive blue finnage, producing an exceptionally vibrant display fish.

Care Requirements

  • Temperature: 18–26 °C (64–79 °F)
  • pH: 6.0–8.0
  • KH: 4–18 °dKH (general guideline from species profiles)
  • Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons (due to territorial behaviour)
  • Family: Osphronemidae (Gourami/Paradise family)

As a labyrinth fish, it breathes atmospheric air and must be kept in a lidded aquarium with access to the surface.

Behaviour & Temperament

  • Temperament: Semi‑aggressive
  • Males are territorial, especially during breeding — avoid housing males together unless in a very large tank.
  • Best kept:
    • As one male per tank, or
    • In harems (1 male + multiple females) in large setups.
  • May prey on smaller fish and is not recommended for nano or shrimp tanks.

Diet

Omnivorous — accepts a wide range of foods:

  • High‑quality flakes or pellets
  • Freeze‑dried or frozen bloodworms, tubifex
  • Brine shrimp
  • Some algae‑based foods for colour enhancement

Tank Setup

  • Provide plants, caves, and structure for hiding and territory boundaries.
  • Soft substrate and smooth rocks recommended.
  • Gentle water movement is preferred; species tolerates wide conditions.
  • Keep a tight lid — they are surface breathers and occasional jumpers.

Breeding

  • A bubble‑nest builder, similar to bettas.
  • Males construct foam nests at the surface.
  • A separate breeding tank is recommended to protect females.
